The Waka Moana Artworks Take Place in Tāmaki Makaurau

In partnership with Auckland Urban Development Office, JFC delivered the installation of the Waka Moana artworks by artist Graham Tipene which honour the stories of Māori voyagers who navigated Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa (the Pacific Ocean) centuries ago before arriving on the shores of Tāmaki Makaurau.
We constructed nine architecturally designed concrete plinths, each uniquely shaped and built with precision and innovative construction techniques to support the Waka structures. We also installed new lighting through existing footpaths, relocated street furniture, and revitalised the surrounding rain gardens using eco-friendly materials that complement the new artworks and enhance the public space.
