Delivering Five Escalators to Waitematā Station’s Eastern Access

Delivering Five Escalators to Waitematā Station’s Eastern Access
Following the delivery of the Waitematā Station Plaza upgrade, we had the privilege of installing five new escalators for the eastern access to the station.
Our scope of works included off-site assembly, including a proof-of-concept unit for future replacements, transport to site by rail wagon and road transport, removal and disposal of existing escalators, installation, securing, and commissioning into service, and reinstatement of surrounding architecture and services.
With three escalators at platform level and floor load restrictions limiting conventional transport for the remaining two, getting these units on site took some creative problem solving. Rail delivery handled three, while scaffolding gantries and wheeled skates moved the others into position. All five were installed safely and efficiently.
A big thank you to Auckland Transport and Frequency for their continued support on our escalator installation projects.
