Delivering Engineering Excellence: The Hangar 4 Project

25/09/2025

The Hangar 4 project at Auckland International Airport delivers a state-of-the-art aircraft maintenance hangar, anchored by large-scale pavement quality concrete and foundation systems designed to withstand the heavy loads of aircraft movements.

JFC’s scope included placing 15,000m² of pavement-quality concrete up to 350mm thick, slab jacking up to 500mm, constructing structural concrete for manholes and ancillary structures, and completing around 7,200lm of joint sealing. The delivery of this high-specification concrete infrastructure required strict compliance with Auckland Airport’s operational standards and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations, adding further complexity and demanding meticulous staging, and programming.

Sustainability was also at the core of delivery, with the project designed to meet Greenstar 6 certification. This involved low-carbon concrete mixes, advanced curing techniques, and environmentally responsible sourcing.

We are proud to have partnered with NZ Strong to deliver the southern hemisphere’s largest-single-span timber aircraft hangar.
