Waiwharariki Anzac Square
JFC successfully delivered a major transformation of Hurstmere Road in Takapuna, partnering with Eke Panuku from Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) through to construction completion in 2023. The project established a vibrant civic space in the heart of Takapuna, enhancing public connectivity to the beachfront and creating an inviting environment for community use. It included extensive infrastructure and landscape upgrades, prioritising pedestrian access, sustainability, and cultural integration. Key features included a new water feature, structural paving for vehicle access, raised insitu concrete planters and seating, expanded green space, and a suite of bespoke artworks (Mahi Toi) developed in collaboration with local artists to honour the area’s cultural and natural heritage.

The scope of works consisted of the following:
- Installation of over 71,000 individual pieces of natural granite stone paving on a reinforced 30/35MPa concrete base
- Construction of over 1,500m2 of decorative concrete pavements, finished with medium to heavy sandblasting
- Installation of a new surface water system using ACO channels, manholes, and storm filters
- Construction of raised insitu concrete planters and seating, with complex architectural formwork
- Supply and installation of a new water feature system including a surge pump, underwater lighting, rock pools, plinth seating, insitu concrete shell, precast feature panels, and overflow connections to existing wastewater infrastructure
- Coordination with H2O for the design and delivery of the water feature plant room and operational systems
- Water supply connections for tree pit irrigation, the water feature, and drinking fountains
- Integration of a new lighting system, including amenity lights on Jellicoe style poles and downlights on each of the Mahi Toi structures
- Delivery and installation of new lighting artwork clusters: Pou Rama (illuminated artwork columns at 38 Hurstmere Road), Waharoa (gateway arch at the Lake Road entrance), and Whare Maumahara (structure at the Potters Park interface)
