Southeast Riccarton Wastewater Renewal
JFC successfully delivered one of Christchurch City Council’s largest single-contractor wastewater renewals, covering over 7 kilometres of critical infrastructure across the densely populated Riccarton area. This project required extensive upgrades to ageing wastewater networks in a highly urban environment, with close proximity to major commercial hubs such as Riccarton Mall, busy Riccarton and Blenheim Roads, and in a highly populated residential area. JFC employed innovative construction methodologies, particularly in the integration of large “bigfoot” manhole structures within constrained urban corridors. Precision re-benching and mainline reconnections were carried out with minimal disruption, showcasing our ability to deliver technically challenging solutions in confined spaces. The project was successfully completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

The scope of works consisted of the following:
Installation of 56 new manholes, 3,627m of new wastewater main and 3,096m of wastewater laterals.
62m of spiral wound liner installed in existing mains, including fibreglass external wrapping and internal PVC spiral wound lining.
Complex reconnections of existing mains to “bigfoot” manholes
Tree protection, dewatering, and non-invasive excavation using AirVac to preserve sensitive areas.
Re-benching of existing manholes to enhance flow efficiency and structural integrity.
