Mill Flat Road Bridge
JFC delivered a full replacement of the Mill Flat Road Bridge when the existing bridge got washed away in the Auckland Anniversary Flooding back in 2023. Keeping the Mill Flat community connected was essential, so construction was staged in two phases, which kept one bridge lane open throughout. JFC also optimised temporary works sequencing and traffic management to limit disruption and maintain steady progress. Given the site’s proximity to the Rangitopuni stream, robust environmental controls were a priority from start to finish. Throughout the project, JFC kept residents of Mill Flat Road and Coatesville-Riverhead Highway informed through open communication, regular progress updates, and clear signage. Well-managed site interfaces ensured safe access and minimised the impact on the community.
The scope of works consisted of the following:
Installation of secant piled abutments and return walls
Installation of reinforced concrete capping beams, return wingwalls, abutment upstands and corbels
Installation of steel girder pairs as the superstructure of the main bridge while maintaining a lane open
Installation of precast deck units and pouring of the in-situ stitch beams. including the longitudinal stitch pour to connect both bridge stages together
Kerbing and barrier installation
Relocation of existing services onto the new bridge structure
Realignment and widening of Mill Flat Road and Coatesville-Riverhead Highway, including installation of a new piled retaining wall
Road resurfacing, line marking and installation of new TL-3 guardrails
