Aotea Lagoon South End Renewal
The Aotea Lagoon South End Renewal project, led by Porirua City Council, was designed to revitalise the southern end of the lagoon to improve accessibility, functionality, and sustainability for the community. The upgrade enhances public space while supporting long-term environmental and social outcomes.

The scope of works consisted of the following:
Upgrade of stormwater drainage, soak pits, and manholes supporting overall park infrastructure
Soak pits and subgrade preparation integrated into new shared path alignments to improve drainage
Construction of soft paths and asphalt footpaths, forming primary and secondary circulation loops around the site
Timber edging along new asphalt paths and topsoiling to edges for clean transitions
Delivery of a new timber boardwalk and lookout deck, with kerb edging and geogrid support
Boardwalk tie-ins and connections completed as part of the detailed finish work
Construction of terraced walls and concrete tie-ins to enable new amenity spaces
Structural timber construction staged alongside installation of retaining walls and access stairs
Installation of public seating, lookout platforms, and a sculpture pad for relocated artwork (Guy Ngan sculpture)
Topsoiling and planting to follow completion of hardscaping around the boardwalk and soft path zones
