Retaining Walls Take Shape at Waiapu Precinct

02/06/2026

There’s been a significant change to the scenery at our Waiapu Precinct site as these retaining walls started to take shape.

These walls form the foundation for a future staircase that will connect the different levels of the precinct. Construction begins with pad footings installed in-ground along the length of each wall, followed by reinforced masonry block walls that are grout filled. The next phase brings staircase footings between the two walls, before the precast staircase and handrails are installed.

The walls will eventually have to support many different precast concrete units, which has required extensive coordination and quality control between our team, the designers, and our precast suppliers for perfect results. It has truly been a collaborative effort amongst all parties. – Franz, JFC Project Engineer
