New Public Art Brings Victoria Street to Life

31/07/2026

On Wednesday, a big milestone was marked for the Te Hā Noa project, with two significant artworks unveiled on Victoria Street: Wāhine, reflecting the Māori tradition of welcome, and Horotiu, reflecting the land’s hidden history.

It’s rewarding to see how our streetscape elements completed in 2025 form the backdrop, with this taonga toi (public art) now bringing the area to life.

With Watercare’s wastewater upgrade on Victoria Street East now complete, we’re back on the tools finishing the last section of this project between Queen and High/Lorne St.

We’ve loved the challenge of developing one of Auckland’s complex urban streets and we can’t wait to share the finished results soon.
